“How to Fix Your Sin – Call 275-843-5673 (Ask The Lord)”

Today the message is entitled “How to Fix Your Sin – Call 275-843-5673 (Ask The Lord)!”

I saw this title on a sign a long time ago and put it away in my future ideas file. Today is a great day to consider what it says as we prepare to partake of Communion together, remembering what Jesus did for us.

We will start with the words of the Psalmist who knew how God had worked in his life and wanted to tell us about it.

Psalm 116: 1-6 NIV
1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came upon me;
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, save me!”

5 The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord protects the simplehearted;
when I was in great need, he saved me.

Now, we look at the apostle Paul’s experience with God and the result of the encounter.

Acts 22: 12-16 NIV Paul receiving sight after Damascus road
12 “A man named Ananias came to see me. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there.
13 He stood beside me and said, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very moment I was able to see him.
14 “Then he said: ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth.
15 You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.
16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

Baptism was the outward sign to the people of the inward change that Paul already had. Calling on God is a daily need so that we walk with God every moment.

1 John 1: 8-9 NIV
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

We all have a sinful nature until we ask God to replace it with His nature.
We do that by following the instructions given to Paul from God.

Rom 10: 9-13 NIV
9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

11 As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” [ Isaiah 28:16] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,

13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” [ Joel 2:32]

Jesus came as a human being to walk with mankind, to show us how to love, to lead us into a new way of living that honors God.

Jesus took the punishment for our sins (past, present and future) which is death by dying on that cross.

Jesus showed us that believing on Him will keep our souls alive when he arose from the grave and went back to heaven – beating death forever.

Now, we are to believe in this awesome God, call on God for forgiveness, accept the gift of life eternal, be Baptized as a witness of the change in our lives and then go tell others of what God has done for you.

How do we fix the sin in our life?

We call out to God and ask Him to forgive us, to change us, to help us find His path for our lives. When we believe that God hears and answers our pleas, we will be changed forever.

Make that call today!
