Good morning!
Today my message is entitled “Who Do We Celebrate?”
We started this series of messages last week with “Why do we celebrate?”
We will look at “who we celebrate” today, then follow with how, when, lets celebrate and now we celebrate. This look at celebration is to prepare us to arrive at Easter with an excited atmosphere of celebration as we remember what Jesus Christ did that weekend.
So “who do we celebrate?” Let’s start with who people sing about today.
From a song we get these words:
Savior, He can move the mountains.
My God is mighty to save.
Forever Author of salvation.
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.
From another song we get these words:
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to thee,
How great Thou art! How Great Thou art!
From another song:
Worthy of our praise
My heart will sing
Name above all names
How great is our God
From another song:
Shout to the Lord, all the earth
Let us sing, power and majesty, praise to the King.
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name.
One day while I was at this church alone, God gave me words to a song. I was putting posters on the back boards and I started to sing these words and wrote them down. I have not put it to music yet nor have I checked to see if someone else has these words before me. I feel God wants you to know what He gave to me that day.
There is a Lord who came to earth, who gave new birth.
There is a Lord who came to give, who taught to live.
There is a Lord who hung on a tree, who set me free.
There is a Lord who did arise, who opened my eyes.
There is a Lord who left behind, a Spirit so kind.
There is a Lord who I trust each day, who is here to stay.
There is a Lord who promises me, a life for eternity.
There is a Lord who stands at the gate, who is patient and waits.
There is a Lord who is waiting for me, who waits for thee.
There is a Lord who waits for you, who wants you too.
There is a Lord who does not hate, who is worthy to celebrate.
Hebrews 13:8 NIV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Who do we celebrate? Jesus Christ our Lord, who is God!
What does God say to us in His word, the Bible?
Rev. 1:5,6 NIV
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,
6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
Rev. 5: 9-14
9 And they sang a new song:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders.
12 In a loud voice they were sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”
14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
Henry Feyerabend, in his book “Revelation Verse by Verse,” makes this statement:
“Jesus is worthy of my life and my love. He is worthy of everything I can say of Him, worthy of a thousand times more than that. He is worthy of all the music and harps on earth, worthy of all the songs of all the sweetest singers, worthy of all the poetry of the best writers. He is worthy of all the adoration of every knee, worthy of all that every man has or can conceive, or can encompass, worthy to be adored of all that are in the earth and in the heavens and in the heaven of heavens.
David Hocking is quoted in “Revelation – God’s Word for the Biblically-Inept,”:
“Can there be any doubt as to the grand and ultimate objective for the believer? Is not the worship and praise of Almighty God our primary goal? We will one day participate in that heavenly scene, but even now we can enjoy the privilege of exalting Him.
As Paul exhorts us in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “whatever we do, let us do it to the glory of God.”
Who do we celebrate? The most awesome God I know!
Let’s pray!
